I would probably pick any normal looking person. He has had so much plastic surgery that he is no longer believable as a genuine character which this movie called for.

@ Peter – yeah, you’re not along in your opinion that Angels & Demons was better. I personally liked Da Vinci Code better, though.

Yeah, Hanks wasn’t a great fit for the role. Not exactly sure who I’d pick. Any suggestions?

I liked Angels and Demons better then the Da Vinci Code.

Not sure why they let Hanks do this movie after he totally sucked in the Da Vinci Code.

Sad that these great books are being ruined and I am one that loves when books become movies but not in this way.

@ Baker – I read a mixture. My non-fiction is mostly baseball and true crime / forensics (supplemented by subscriptions to Popular Science and Archeology) while my fiction is mostly mystery/suspense.

Brown’s books make you think a bit – his characters are typically pretty smart. Da Vinci Code is probably the best place to jump in for the newbie.

Toss a paperback version (you can find one at ANY used book store) into your backpack and read it on the way to Australia.

My wife really loves Dan Brown! Honestly, I’m not sure whether I would or not. He seems engaging enough, but I can’t really get into fiction literature. I read a ton, but it’s all non-fiction.

It might do me good to take a break and read some of his work!
