You can read more from Mobile Marketer at http://www.mobilemarketer.com/cms/news/messaging/1965.html . One mobile marketer is quote: “This is wonderful news. But it doesn’t feel like a pardon – more like a stay of execution.” Sounds about right.I’m guessing this is still a success for Verizon. Despite their trial balloon being shot down, the idea is out there and now the question is only “How much will carriers raise fees?”

But clearly this should be pro-rated depending on how long you've had the contract. Also, it would make sense to have different ETFs for different phones. When I shop for cell phones, I look for exactly 1 feature - battery life. Due to the inverse relationship between battery life and features, my phones end up with minimal bells and whistles - and clearly cost the cell carrier much less than the "cool" phones. Some of the text pricing boggles my mind. Seriously, charging a dime (or more) for sending/receiving a text message. The thought that there is some sort of significant marginal cost for each message doesn't seem particularly logical. But Verizon's step of censoring content that the user actively subscribed to goes too far. What next - they decide to block calls from non-Verizon callers?

Cancellation fees, to a point, make sense to me.
