On the other hand, a good coach can take you further than a mediocre one. I'm not saying that the Cubs will suddenly start hitting .300 as a team, but I would expect a bit of an uptick across the board. Not to mention that coaches are absurdly cheap, relative to players. For the price of a utility infielder, you could put together a damn fine group of instructors. I agree that a coach can only take you so far. On the other hand, a good coach can take you further than a mediocre one. I’m not saying that the Cubs will suddenly start hitting .300 as a team, but I would expect a bit of an uptick across the board.

Not to mention that coaches are absurdly cheap, relative to players. For the price of a utility infielder, you could put together a damn fine group of instructors.
