I wrote for CAPE PAC this morning, about how Obama has taken the credit for the death of Osama. But there’s something else that’s been bothering me.
As the wife of a soldier who was deployed, I know, first hand, the worries of those staying at home and having soldiers overseas. I know, first hand, the sleepless nights worrying about my husband, the medic, being attacked by Al-Qaeida. I know, first hand, the sound of bombs on the other end of the phone line and the sinking feeling in my stomach when the phone line goes quiet … and I know the tears.
I know what it’s like to sleep in an empty bed. I know what it’s like to see college kids out protesting with signs saying”NO WAR” and “BUSH THE WAR MONGERER”. I know what it’s like to have people give me “the look” when I said my husband was deployed. I know what it’s like to have someone call my husband a “baby killer” (no, really. This happened).
So when I see the college campuses erupting in cheers, I’m bothered. These are the same Obama zombies who called Bush the “war mongerer”. The same kids who shamed those who fought overseas. The same kids who voted for Obama. And if Obama had gotten his way (and kept his promises) we wouldn’t have gotten Osama. I can tell you that.
When I say “the same kids” I mean it both literally and figuratively. As a Conservative on one of the campuses I saw celebrating last night, I was called some terrible names. Even had a death threat via e-mail when I suggested that we go after Saddam even before it was mentioned by Bush. And, of course, my article one year after 9/11. So, yes. I know how it feels. I understand being happy about Bin Laden being caught. I get it. But reflect to your actions of the past 10 years and see how you’ve made other people feel. Have you always supported our military? Have you always been proud to be an American?
Don’t get me wrong, they have the right to free speech, again something my husband fought for. But stop and think for a second. Would you be able to reflect on your writings in the last two years, let alone nine years ago and agree with yourself?
It’s time for all of America to reflect and grow.

I am sorry about how you felt treated at that time but it was just as bad at the time for liberal around a conservative crowd. Although your reaction falls pretty flat to me because as far as Bin Laden goes the vast majority of liberals have been for him being brought to justice. We just did not support a wasted treasury and blood, sweat and tears of or soldiers in a war that had absolutely nothing to do with 9-11 and taking the eye off the ball. Bush said so many times himself that he did not think of Bin Laden much, that he was not a priority anymore in the ear on terror. That is what liberals got upset with. Obama made a call that the Bush administration would never have made and he deserves credit for that much. As far as your sense of Obama taking full credit he did nothing but give the credit to the special forces that carried out the attack, I wouldn’t expect you to acknowledge that though as I am sure you are awaiting the long form death certificate to believe Osama is dead. It was amusing to watch Fox News last night. Mainly because they had to switch their wording to Usama because one their audience is so stupid or brainwashed that they consider Osama and Obama one and the same and their ‘news’ people kept on referibg to Obama Bin Laden as well. Anyways its just one figurehead down in a now vast unaffilited network of terrorists to go. That is the part we can give credit to the Bush Administration for is that Al-Quaeda is much more than a Bin Laden ran network anymore.

I may not always be a fan of the action of the government, but I believe in always supporting the troops. Their job is to follow the orders they are givem.

I think we all need to stop trying to give credit or assign blame. Cudos to Obama for making the call. Cudos to Bush for prosocuting the war on terrorism. Cudos to the intelegence commuinty for figuring it out. Cudos to the Navy SEALs and all fo the miltary for performing their duty. Cudos to the families left behind for hold the home front down. And let’s not forget the local people who keep us safe every day (remember there have been no major attacks on U.S. territory since 9/11).
As far as the college kids, I think that at least some of the dynamic has changed in the last 10 years. These kids were all 8-12 years old on 9/11. They do have a different mind set, but from my kids who are at college, the main point of the celebrations was to get finals cancelled. Go figure.

Give a normal, rational person contrary evidence to what they believe, they will re-examine their original hypothesis. Whereas if you take a person like @thecrunchyconcervative and give her contrary information… No bueno.

Watching the events live on TV outside of the White House I thought it was a complete circus. Instead of a fratboy-esk party you’d think this would’ve been a better opportunity to remember the troops who have died getting to this day. This isn’t VE or VP day, the war goes on and many families from 9-11 through to families of lost soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan will have nothing to celebrate.
Crunchy I get that you are patriotic and rightfully so but people who treat this day like a carnival screaming “Ooh Ess Ahh” and forming zealous mobs in the street are ironically similar to scenes that FOX would show of anti-west mobs in Muslims countries burning effigies of US presidents.
